Ritorno all' 8-bit

Una delle tendenze grafiche di questo periodo è ciò che si potrebbe definire "8-bit style", cioè il ritorno della Pixel Art nella sua forma più arcana, ma con rielaborazioni accattivanti e attualissime. Un po' per effetto nostalgico agli anni '80, un po' per tornare ad un' essenziale semplicità grafica, molti graphic designer hanno deciso di riportare in auge la pixel art e di adattarla a video, pubblicità nonchè a nuovi giochi per device come  tablet Apple e Android.
Alcuni di questi prodotti sono particolarmente riusciti, sia dal punto di vista tecnico che artistico.
Al primo sguardo la pixel art potrebbe sembrare solo grafica a bassa risoluzione in cui il nostro cervello deve compensare la mancanza di dettaglio, ma il modo in cui l'autore riesce a rimuovere dettaglio pur lasciando dei punti cardine nella figura, da modo alla nostra immaginazione di poterci giocare ed essere stimolata. La pixel art può essere creativa tanto per l'artista che per chi la osserva.

A recent graphics trend is the return to the so called "8-bit" style, bringing pixel art back in its oldest form, but revisiting it with modern aesthetics. A mix of 80's nostalgia and a quest for a simpler and essential form of visual expression,  pixel art has surged in popularity amongst designers of all trades: advertising, videos, and also games for the latest Apple iOS and Android powered tablet devices.

Drawing tutorial 03 - Subdividing in Planes

Last week, I simplified volumes using oval shapes, sanding everything down and smoothing it all. Today is plane time! (QUI la versione in italiano)
Is it possible to subdivide an object into several planar layers? I think it is and that it makes for a good exercise in analyzing volumes and the way light hits surfaces and bounces off them according to their position. It is no easy feat though, the mind tends to compose organic forms using curved three dimensional volumes and not planes (another strange mental process also explained in the book: "Drawing on the right side of the brain" by Betty Edwards)

Codici free, come scaricarli?

In questi ultimi tempi di doni e regalini abbiamo dato in giro un po' di codici free per scaricare l'applicazione "Omino delle Tasche" gratuitamente dall'App Store di Apple.
Alcuni di voi ci hanno chiesto come utilizzare questi codici e, dato che può sempre capitare di avere a che fare con questi o con "Carte regalo"di iTunes,  ci è sembrato opportuno darvi qualche informazione in più a riguardo.
I codicifree vengono rilasciati agli sviluppatori quando pubblicano la propria applicazione, in genere per ogni applicazione si hanno a disposizione tot codici,  per ogni versione, che lo sviluppatore può gestire autonomamente per sponsorizzare la propria app.
Si presentano come una sequenza di lettere e numeri, 12 in tutto, tramite i quali, se digitati in iTunes dal vostro device vi permettono di scaricare un'applicazione gratuitamente.
Alcuni vengono regalati a  blog specifici  che fanno recensioni di app, come iSpazio, e generalmente vengono messi in palio come premio per determinati contest gestiti dal blog a cui chiunque può partecipare, anche tramite Facebook o Twitter. In genere per partecipare all'estrazione basta scrivere un commento sotto il post del contest.
Come per le Carte regalo, anche i codici rilasciati dagli sviluppatori hanno una scadenza: quattro settimane dalla data di rilascio.Quindi meglio non temporeggiare troppo!
